Sri Lanka discovery tour commences and concludes in Colombo

We operate UNIQUE SMALL GROUP tours to Sri Lanka on select dates throughout all seasons.
However the following itinerary operates only over during limited season.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Colombo, Negombo

Welcome at the Colombo International Airport. Transfer to Negombo (approx. 15 minutes’ drive from Colombo International Airport). Tonight we have an included welcome dinner and overnight stay at Jetwing Sea (or similar), Negombo. D

Day 2 – Cave Temple, Habarana, Game Safari

Leave for Habarana. En route, visit the Negombo fish market and Dambulla Cave Temple. Check in to Ekho Sigiriya (or similar), Sigiriya. Afternoon Jeep safari in Minneriya National Park to view wildlife such as elephant, buffalo, hornbills, storks, deer and maybe a leopard. Dinner and overnight stay at Ekho Sigiriya (or similar), Sigiriya. B, D

Day 3 – Anuradhapura

After breakfast leave for an Anuradhapura excursion. Sightseeing tour of historic Anuradhapura and lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the Mihintale archaeological site followed by an aerial view of the ancient city from the summit. Dinner and overnight stay at Ekho Sigiriya (or similar), Sigiriya. B, L, D

Day 4 – Sigiriya “Lion” Rock Fortress, Polonnaruwa

Morning visit to the majestic Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Lunch at a local family-run restaurant in Polonnaruwa. Afternoon sightseeing tour in Polonnaruwa medieval kingdom. Dinner and overnight stay at Ekho Sigiriya (or similar), Sigiriya. B, L, D

Day 5 – Kandy, Cultural Show, Buddha’s Tooth

After breakfast leave for Kandy. En route, visit a Spice Garden in Matale with a Sri Lankan cooking lesson followed by lunch at the spice garden. Reach Kandy in the afternoon and check into Thilanka Hotel (or similar), Kandy. This afternoon, watch the Kandyan cultural show and attend the evening puja ceremony at the Sacred Temple of the Tooth of Buddha. Dinner and overnight stay at Thilanka Hotel (or similar), Kandy. B, L, D

Day 6 – Kandy, Royal Botanical Gardens, Artur’s Seat, Gems and Markets

After breakfast, sightseeing in Kandy including the Royal Botanical Garden, Artur’s Seat viewpoint, Gem Museum, and a walk through the busy markets in Kandy. Free and relaxing afternoon at the cultural resort. Lunch at a local Kandyan family house. Option for an Ayurveda full-body massage. Dinner at Royal Hotel and Bar – own arrangements. This is the residence of the last king’s chief minister before 1815 AD and since converted into a hotel. Overnight stay at Thilanka Hotel (or similar), Kandy. B

Day 7 – Nuwara Eliya, Scenic Train, High Tea, Tea Plantations

Leave for Nuwara Eliya after breakfast. Take the scenic train from Kandy to Nanuoya. Transfer to Grand Hotel (or similar), Nuwara Eliya. Afternoon High Tea followed by a sightseeing tour in Nuwara Eliya including a tea factory and tea plantation, Golf Club, Racecourse, Hill Club, Holy Trinity Church, Lover’s Leap Waterfalls, Lion’s Pub, etc. Dinner and overnight stay at Grand Hotel (or similar), Nuwara Eliya. B, D

Day 8 – Horton Plains, World’s End Cliff, Baker’s Falls, Moon Plains

Included options today: (A) Morning departure for Horton Plains National Park including a trek to World’s End Cliff and Baker’s Waterfalls; or (B) Explore the Moon Plains by Jeep; or (C) Enjoy a relaxing day in the colonial retreat. Dinner and overnight stay at Grand Hotel (or similar), Nuwara Eliya. B, D

Day 9 – Yala, Little Adam’s Peak, Nine Arch Bridge, Waterfalls

Leave for Yala after breakfast, with stops at Little Adam’s Peak, Nine Arch Bridge and Rawana Waterfalls in Ella. Check in to Jetwing Yala Hotel. Afternoon Jeep safari to Yala National Park. Dinner and overnight stay at Jetwing Yala (or similar), Yala.

Day 10 – Orphan Elephants, Galle, Dutch Fort

Leave for Galle after breakfast with a visit to the Elephant Transit Home, Udawalawe. Reach Galle in the afternoon for a sightseeing tour of the World Heritage-listed Dutch Fort. Dinner and overnight stay at Araliya Unawatuna (or similar), Galle. B, D

Day 11 – Galle

Free and relaxing day at the beach resort, or choose optional activities: Madhu River Cruise and Turtle Conservation Centre. Dinner and overnight stay at Araliya Unawatuna (or similar), Galle. B, D

Day 12 – Colombo

Leave for Colombo after breakfast. Check in to Hilton Colombo (or similar). Afternoon sightseeing tour in Colombo including the Victorian quarter and main street. Farewell dinner included tonight at Harbour Court, Kingsbury Hotel (or similar). Overnight stay at Hilton Colombo (or similar), Colombo. B, D

Day 13 – Colombo

Leave for Colombo International Airport according to the majority flight schedule. Late check-out at 3:30 pm. Tour ends with group transfer. B
