Itinerary

Day 1 – Johannesburg

On arrival transfer to overnight accommodation in Johannesburg. Meet our guide early tomorrow morning.

Days 2 & 3 – Kruger National Park

Departing Johannesburg for the world famous Kruger National Park. We visit the northern part of the park from Letaba to Punda Maria. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in our safari vehicle – try to spot lion, elephant, rhino and other animals. B,L,D

Day 4 – GREAT ZIMBABWE

Entering Zimbabwe at the Beit Bridge border post, we travel north to our overnight stop. The following morning we visit the Great Zimbabwe Monuments. These well preserved ruins are some of the oldest and largest stone structures in Southern Africa and were built during the 11th to 14th centuries. We explore these ancient stone structures on a guided walk with a local guide. B,L,D

Days 5 & 6 – MATOBO NATIONAL PARK

Travelling via Bulawayo we move to the Matobo National Park and our chalets on the outskirts of the park. This afternoon enjoy sundowners from the granite ridge over-looking the park. The following morning we visit World’s View and site of Cecil John Rhodes’ grave. Unusual rock formations with an array of ancient bushman paintings are visited on our game drive and walk. This area is also home to Zimbabwe’s rhino. B,L,D

Days 7 & 8 – HWANGE NATIONAL PARK

Named after a local chief, Hwange National Park is the largest Park in Zimbabwe (14 650 sq klms). Hwange is famed for its many elephants. Our chalets border the park, and we explore the park with our local guide, on a full day game drive in an open 4WD. B,L,D

Days 9 & 10 – VICTORIA FALLS

We enjoy a spectacular guided walk through tropical veg-etation to the very edge of the “Mosi oa Tunya” or “the smoke that thunders” – Victoria Falls. There are opportunities to take optional “Flight of Angels” . B

Day 11 – CHOBE NATIONAL PARK

Entering Botswana, we head to Kasane and our accom-modation on the banks of the Chobe River. The river flows along the boundary of the Chobe National Park attracting some of the largest herds of elephant in Africa. A highlight is the afternoon game viewing cruise where we hope to see large herds of elephants and other wildlife at the waters edge. B,L

Day 12 – NATA

Free time or optional Chobe National Park game drive. Heading south through the Kasane Forest Reserve make our way to the Nata area for overnight stop. B,L

Days 13 & 14 – MAUN

Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta, originated as a cattle outpost, and is now the capital of Botswana’s tourist industry. It is our base as we prepare for our excursion into the Okavango Delta. Our lodge is situat-ed on the banks of the Thamalakane River and after settling in we have time to relax by the pool. B,L

Days 15 & 16 – MOREMI GAME RESERVE

We take an open 4WD into Moremi Game Reserve for fantastic game viewing! Chief’s Island is the largest landmass within Moremi and was the Batswana tribe’s richest hunting ground, before being declared a game reserve. We spend 2 days on game drives watching the abundant wildlife including elephant, buffalo, hippo, lion & other game in Moremi and in private concession reserves near the park. Return to Maun. B,L,D

Day 17 – PLANET BAOBAB

Leaving Moremi Game reserve we head back to Maun and then east towards Gweta and Planet Baobab where we overnight amongst the ancient giants.

Day 18 – PALALA

Heading south we pass by Francistown on-route to Mar-tins Drift/Groblersbrug the border between Botswana and South Africa. After entering back into South Africa we head to overnight stop on the banks of the Limpopo River. B,L,D

Day 19 – LIMPOPO RIVER, JOHANNESBURG

After a leisurely breakfast overlooking the natural South Africa – Botswana border before we pack up the truck and head back to Johannesburg and overnight accom-modation. Guided tour ends this afternoon. B,L

Day 20 – JOHANNESBURG

After breakfast we have time to relax around the pool or take a walk across the road to Monte Casino. B
