Itinerary
This morning following arrival and clearance we are taken on a panoramic tour of the city, which will pass many famous attractions including the BMW Headquarters and Museum, and Olympia Park, the site of the 1972 Olympic Games. Following check in at our hotel there is an optional walking tour through the heart of Munich’s beautiful Old Town. Along the way we take a look into the city’s colourful history, stopping at various sites including Marienplatz, the Frauenkirche, Karlsplatz and the Old and New Town Halls. Welcome dinner included tonight.D
Departing Munich our journey along the Bavarian country roads brings us to Schwangau for what will be the first of many impressive stops. Rising almost into the clouds is the fairy-tale castle of Neuschwanstein, where you can enjoy incredible views. Next, we travel to the miraculously preserved Church of Wies, a masterpiece of Bavarian Rococo, before continuing to Oberammergau, world-famous for its passion play and our base for the next 3 nights. This evening we enjoy a pre-dinner drink then a typical Bavarian dinner at our picturesque Oberammergau hotel to the accompaniment of local musicians. B,D

Today we depart Oberammergau and travel along the Romantic Road to Nuremburg. A trade route during the middle ages, Germany’s Romantic Road still retains much of its medieval character. The road often winds through forgotten sections of countryside, connecting walled towns and picturesque villages such as Augsburg - the oldest city in Bavaria, Nördlingen and Dinkelsbühl. Overnight: Noris Hotel, Nuremberg or similar.B
After breakfast we travel to Bamberg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to one of Europe’s largest intact old town centres, boasting over a thousand years of history. See many sights including the Old Town Hall, the Old Court, St. Martins Church and the Cathedral. After returning to Nuremberg the rest of the day is free for you to explore Nuremberg’s Christmas Market at your leisure. Overnight: Noris Hotel, Nuremberg or similar.B
Today we drive from Nuremberg to Heidelberg, enjoying the sights and Christmas markets of Würzburg and Rothenburg enroute. Known as the town of eternal Christmas, Rothenburg is a fascinating city to explore – its old town is a patchwork of winding cobbled lanes lined with picturesque half-timbered houses. Continue to Heidelburg - our base for 2 nights.
Heidelberg is one of the most picturesque destinations in Germany and home to many historic treasures. we continue to Heidelberg. Nestled in the hills along the Neckar River and undamaged by allied bombers in the Second World War. Overnight: Art Hotel, Heidelberg or similar. B
We begin today with a walking tour of the historic Old Town. We then visit a local brewery, where you will learn the ancient art of beer production from a master brewer. Try three different kinds of beer in the beer cellar followed by a delicious lunch. This afternoon visit the imposing Heidelberg Castle, which dominates the city’s skyline. Once a Gothic masterpiece, today its ruins have a rugged charm and are considered the symbol of German romanticism. This afternoon you will have free time to explore the city’s Christmas market. Frankfurt is a lively metropolis with a magnificent skyline. This morning we will explore Frankfurt’s Old Town centre, see the Cathedral, St. Paul’s Church and the Goethe-House before Overnight: Hotel Astoria, Frankfurt or similar.B
